This thesis discusses the power distribution in different relationships among different groups of people in Toni Morrison's novel The Bluest Eye and discloses the inferiority of the black, women and children in the power structures.Based on the analysis above,Pecola and Pauline's convert to the white social codes is examined to show how these power structures lead to their convert.Through the discussions above, black people's self-discrimination can be disclosed and the tragedy of Self in System is suggested.Introduction is the first part of this thesis,in which a brief introduction of Tony Morrison's career, the plot of The Bluest Eye and studies on it at home and abroad are included.Apart from that, the theoretical basis of the thesis is outlined:methods used in(political)power structure study in Sociology is generalized to examine the social relationships in this novel. The second part comprises chapter two to chapter four.Chapter two to four are devoted to the examination of superiority and inferiority of the white and the black(centered on Race),of men and women(centered on Sex)and of adults and children(centered on Age)in economic and cultural relationships inside the society, inside the black community and inside the black families.Chapter five, the three part,is constituted by the analysis of two examples that shows how these power structures work in collaboration to drive the characters' convert to white social codes and the discussion of the covertness and self-reinforcement in this process. In the conclusion, this thesis is summarized to reveal two reasons of the disclosure of the power structures in the world inside the novel:black people's self-discrimination in the fusion of different nation;and to impart pessimistically the eternal tragedy of Self in System.
