This is a consecutive English-Chinese interpreting report on Shashi Tharoor’s speech. In this report,I mainly analyzed problems in the process of interpreting, the reasons why problems occurred and the solutions of solving problems. In response to the problems,I also raised corresponding interpreting strategies. This report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction which is an overview of this report. The second chapter introduces the pre-interpreting preparations, including preparations for background information and interpreting theory. The third chapter introduces the interpreting description, including interpreting process, difficulties in interpreting process, feedback on interpreting. The fourth chapter is case analysis, which is also the most important chapter.I mainly reflected on the obstacles occurred in interpreting process and solutions to solve the problems.I also presented some interpreting skills and reflection.I described notes in detail in the fourth chapter. The fifth chapter is a summary of the interpreting.I carefully wrote down the records and hoped to help other interpreters.Through the analysis of this report,I found that the main problems in the interpreting were information loss and misunderstanding. The fundamental reason was that some proper nouns were not understood. And the accent and the speed of the speaker were all reasons that caused misinterpreting and incomplete interpreting. Therefore, the countermeasures that interpreter proposed are:(1)the absolute necessity of preparation before interpreting;(2)the combination of intensive listening and extensive listening is needed to adapt to different accents from different regions;(3)do the practice of consecutive interpreting frequently so as to be more familiar with authentic English expression.
