Artistic creation is a kind of complex mental activity.First of all,it is an observation based on life and then the observation is materialized by using certain artistic techniques.It represents the real life.Furthermore,it shows the inner thoughts of the creators.We see both Chinese and foreign masters of art try to make best use of the colors.Therefore,how to combine the visual beauty of the picture with manifestation of colors in oil paintings is the criterion about whether a painting is successful or not.From Botticelli and Jan Van Eyck in early Renaissance to modern art in the 1900 s,both the composition of a picture and the use of colors clearly reflect the balance between manifestation of color and the visual beauty of the picture.Contemporary Chinese oil paintings integrate traditional Chinese art and modern features.The color research provides an invaluable path for exploring the composing of oil painting,the unique feature of the artists’ works and the development and evolution of artistic styles.This paper explores the manifestation of colours in relation to the harmonious visual beauty in the works and theories of oil painting masters.By analyzing the representative artists in the western oil painting history and their own painting features,this paper aims to offer a deep understanding and profound thinking about the concept of beauty and manifestation in the composing of oil paintings,which provides more sensible,more complete and more systematic theoretic knowledge for composing oil paintings in the future and contributes to our oil painting practice. |
