The Relations Between Taiwan Gang In Amoy And The Local Warlord Regime During The Beiyang Government,1914-1926

During the period of the Beiyang government,China's social and political changes were frequent.Amoy is as an important port city in southeast Fujian.At that time,Taiwan Gang in Amoy had a huge population and was deeply involved in the local social and political life.The several warlords in Amoy took their own interests and social stability into consideration,they all tried to clear Taiwan Gang in Amoy.However,due to the backing of Japanese support and the limited power of the ruling party,the local warlord regime could not achieve their goals.The conflicts between the two sides was once out of control,causing Amoy to be nearly out of order.This paper intends to sort out the relations between the warlord regime in Amoy and Taiwan Gang from the perspective of the local socio-political changes in Amoy,in order to reveal the Chinese government's inability to deal with the intrusion of foreign forces on Chinese society under a special historical background.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,this article is divided into four chapters.Chapter one mainly elaborates why Amoy had lots of Registered Taiwanese,and the reason why Taiwan Gang came to Amoy and the "privilege" of Taiwan Gang.Chapter two mainly elaborates the attitude of Li Houji and Amoy officials to Taiwan Gang.The Japanese attitudes on the issue of Taiwan Gang and the perceptions of the people in Amoy for Taiwan Gang.Chapter three mainly elaborates that during the Tsang Chih-ping period(1922-1924),Tsang Chih-ping took the initiative to crack down on the challenges faced by Taiwan Gang.This chapter also focusing on analyzing the origins and circumstances of the incident of Taiwan Gang fighting with Detectives.Chapter four mainly elaborated on how Yang Shuzhuang dealt with the issue of Taiwan Gang,the reason of the second incident of Taiwan Gang fighting with Detectives,and the Zhuang Xiquan incident and the people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait jointly resisted the Japanese power.
