A Study On Word Formation Of Net Neologisms Based On The Economy Principle

The development and popularization of the Internet is a profound change in the world.With the rapid development of the Internet,it has enriched the life of mankind,and has brought unprecedented convenience to human's daily chatting and communication.As a new language variant,the Internet language attracts the attention of many scholars both at home and abroad in the academic circles.They have done researches about the definition,features and scope of network language.Also,there are plenty of scholars starting to study the Net neologisms.It is known that language,is economical,which is composed of three major systems,namely,grammar,phonological system and vocabulary.Among them,the first two systems are relatively stable,but vocabulary is comparatively active.Net neologisms are the most active part in the Internet language.There is a need to make some particular researches on net neologisms in order to get a better understanding of them.With the popularity of the network,many new words related to the network or spread rapidly through the network come into being,and emerge one after another.They are simple,unique,humorous and modern.In the virtual world of the network,compared with traditional words,neologisms are endowed with new features.From the point of view of the Economy Principle,this study intends to probe into the word formation of net neologisms,the most active part of the language system.Collecting data from the dictionaries of net neologisms in English and Chinese,website like www.wordspy.com,and referring to Chinese Language Report,a detailed analysis will be employed.In the process of analyzing,this study will compare the net neologisms from horizontally and vertically,and summarize the common types of word formation of net neologisms.This study attempts to analyze the word formation of net neologisms by using qualitative and quantitative analysis.This thesis aims to analyze the word formations of net neologisms both in English and Chinese based on the Economy Principe.Here are the research questions it will answer:1.What are the word formation types of net neologisms?2.What are the typical features of word formation of net neologisms based on the Economy Principle?3.What are differences between net neologisms word formation and traditional ones?Through analyzing,this study makes an elaborate study on the net neologism word formations.After careful researches of the word forms and sources of neologisms in English and Chinese Net-speak,there are seven main types of word formation: loan words,old words with new meanings,affixation,shortening,partial tone words,calque and compounding.Hereare the features of net neologism.In phonological level,onomatopoetic words and homonymic words are used frequently.Semantically,the new words describe new ideas vividly with rich implications.This kind of lexical items have clear and concise meanings,which are easy to interpret and memorize.In this space,many new network words have been created in a unique way with humorous sense.The forms of new words tend to be succinct.Also,there are also some unique features of using neologisms in pragmatic.The generality of network neologisms is very strong.The means of expression of Network neologisms is quite direct.And the expression effect of Network neologisms is remarkable.The simple form of network neologism and humorous language make it a more economical way of expression and communication tool which the majority of Internet users like to use.Thus,new word formation types are added,and deviation and abbreviation become the main means of word formation under the influence of the Economy Principle.Influenced by the principle of economy,dialects and more languages become the source of new words especially in Chinese neologisms,thus,new words are produced.The purpose of this study is to provide a simple,rapid,and time-saving means of communication for the vast number of Internet users.In addition,although the Internet is a free space without too many restrictions,it also tries to provide a kind of standard or reference for the development of network language,especially network neologisms.After all,language is an important part of the embodiment of social civilization.Network language as the main trend of contemporary time,it is vital to attach more importance on the standardization to build a harmonious Internet environment.
