| Vocabulary is not only an indispensable factor in studying the second language but also the basic element of language.Therefore,vocabulary learning has been regarded as the key point in English learning.As Karshen(1989)said that a large number of vocabularies are the necessary condition for mastering a language.However,senior high school students are lack of autonomy and awareness in vocabulary learning.With the development of Mobile Learning theory and wireless network as well as mobile devices,some effective learning strategies can be well applied to mobile application.The vocabulary memory application is used in this thesis named “Scallop Words”,which can be installed on the mobile devices.The author believes that high school students can use vocabulary memory application to learn vocabulary well.Based on information processing mode and mobile assisted language learning,this thesis aims to answer the following research questions:(1)Can the method of learning English by Scallop Words Application based on M-Learning improve students’ vocabulary learning?(2)What are the EC’s views about the Scallop Words Application?Two parallel classes of senior one were chosen respectively work as control class and experimental class.The thesis adopted the method of the combination of quantitative research and qualitative research.The quantitative data came from questionnaires and tests to solve the first research question after being analyzed by SPSS 23.The author collected data from the open-ended questions of questionnaires to analyse the experimental class students’ attitudes towards the Scallop Words Application,which included students’ impression on this application and their evaluation about the functions of this application.The experimental results showed that students were willing to use Scallop Words Application to memorise vocabulary.The participants thought the Scallop Words Application was available to help them memorize vocabularies and they also expressed their opinions on this application.The scores of the tests showed that the experimental class’ s grades were better than the control class’ s.Therefore,the author believes that Vocabulary Memory Application based on the Mobile Learning theory is effective for high school students.Given that the number of the participants is limited and they all come from senior one,which couldn’t represent all the middle school students in China.To some degree,there are some limitations in this experiment.Therefore,the future researches should take a lesson from this research,and let more participants take part in the experiments so as tomake the results more persuasive and representative.Teachers and students can gain some inspirations from this study.Through the learning model of this application,teachers are supposed to realize that the traditional teaching model focused on teacher-centered status should be changed and teachers should create positive class atmosphere and combine vocabulary teaching with real life to stimulate students’ motivation.Students can also use their fragmentary time and set up study plans,stipulating the daily learning amount,in order to reduce the learning pressure. |
