Shyness is a negative and relatively stable personal trait, shy people tend to be sensitive to others' evaluation especially the negative ones, and excessive concern about others'evaluation severely restricts them from projecting themselves naturally, which may cause isolation and lack of social support.College students are in the stage that is critical for the formation of ego identity, previous studies have already shown that shyness and ego identity were two important factors affecting mental health, but there are few studies concerning the influential mechanism of shyness on mental health, and there haven't been any studies on the mediating role of ego identity in the relationship between shyness and mental health. In this paper,to explore the relationship between college students' mental health and shyness?ego identity,381 college students were accessed by shyness scale?EOM-EIS-2 and general health questionnaire. The major findings are listed as follows:(1)There was significant difference in shyness in terms of major?grade and whether the only child;there was significant difference in identity status in terms of gender, major, grade and birthplace;and there was significant difference in mental health in terms of gender and grade.(2)Except rare dimensions, there was significant correlation between shyness?mental health and dimensions of EOM-EIS-2.(3)Shyness?identity foreclosure and identity diffusion could predict scores of mental health in a positive way while identity achievement could predict scores in a negative way.(4)Ego identity played a moderating role between shyness and mental health.
