The teaching of writing plays an important role in English teaching of senior high school.English Curriculum Standard for senior High schools also puts forward specific requirements for writing.However,in practical teaching,teachers apply traditional teaching approaches in the teaching of English writing,they ignore the genre analysis and the process of writing.The cultivation of skills in English writing is also overlooked.The purpose of action research on Process Genre Approach in the teaching of English writing is to improve the efficiency of teaching.Action research is adopted in this thesis.Research is carried out in two natural classes in the Grade One,including an experimental class and a control class.Each class has 58 students.The experimental class adopts the Process Genre Approach,and the control class follows the traditional teaching approach.There are seven steps of Process Genre Approach: analysis of model texts,set up a specific writing task,group discussion,make an outline,the first draft,peer-revising and editing,teacher'feedback.There are two rounds of action research.Each round of action research includes three steps: planning,implementation and reflection.The research methodology includes questionnaires,tests and interviews.And SPSS 17.0 is used to analyze the data which is collected from the three research methodologies.The data collected are centered the following three research questions:1.Can the activities of Process Genre Approach help students to build a positive attitude towards English writing?2.Can Process Genre Approach cultivate the students' awareness of genre knowledge?3.Can the application of Process Genre Approach improve students' English writing ability?Through qualitative and quantitative analysis of the results obtained,the following conclusion can be drawn: First,the Process Genre Approach can help students build a positive attitude toward English writing.Students actively participatein the activities in the classroom,and they are interested in writing.Therefore,writing is no longer dull for them.Second,Process Genre Approach can improve students' genre awareness.Before writing,students can judge the required genre and recognize the features of the genre.Generally,Process Genre Approach can improve students' writing ability.Students master writing skills during the training process,and their writing ability is improved.According to the research,the implication for English teachers of the senior high school is as following: the application of Process Genre Approach properly can solve some problems in the teaching of English writing.And it can provide effective help for students to learn English writing.
