The comparative study between the novels of Faulkner and Mo Yan has been a hot spot in the domestic literary critics.Scholars and Master and Doctor graduates focus on their comparative studies mainly in the aspects of native land, myths, female characters, family roles, death theme, creative techniques and so on.Regarding the contrast between creative techniques, the first of them is the comparative study of narrative way.Mo Yan's narrative style has its own characteristics: it not only absorbs the techniques of modern and postmodern in the west, but also possesses the avant-garde character of post-modern,which is different from the native of China. At the same time,it inherits the tradition of Chinese narrative literature and has the local characteristics of Chinese literature, but also different from Faulkner,Marquez.Faulkner, who is a forerunner of the literary world, also has high attainments in his narrative style.Faulkner is good at narrating from various angles(multiple perspectives),increasing the level of his works, coloring his writings, and enriching his writing skills, especially proficient in stream of consciousness.By reading the works of the two of them, the author finds out that the narration of space and time are quite evident in their works,so it is quite necessary to compare the time and space narration in the works of the two writers. In this study, the author combine Bakhtin's chronotope with the theory of narratology, making a specific research from two aspects of time narrative and space narrative. The study is divided into the following sections: the first part of the thesis briefly introduces Faulkner and Mo Yan and the research methods used in this study;the second part is a literature review;the third part introduces the related theories of chronotope and narratology as well as the definition of space-time narration in the two writers' novels;the fourth part compares novels of Faulkner and Mo Yan in time narrative, specifically for linear time narrative comparison and non-linear time narrative comparison, and the fifth part compares novels of Faulkner and Mo Yan in space narrative, specifically for the comparison of geography space narrative and text space narrative comparison;the sixth part is the conclusion. The study shows that the two authors show unique time constructive features in the traditional time narrative. In the narration, the value and meaning of the narrative time are deconstructed in varying degrees, and the structural features of the linear narrative time are reconstructed in varying degrees. As to non-linear time narrative,Faulkner mainly uses the techniques of stream of consciousness and timing dislocations;compared with Faulkner's novels,Mo Yan's fictional narration shows a fragment time narrative feature and his non-linear narrative also has another characteristic that the novel uses multiple texts to disintegrate the original narrative features of time-based novels. As for geography space narrative, the two masters in their literary boundaries both use fictional systems to describe, reproduce, reconstruct, reconsider and subvert the real world,so that there is a clear boundary between the two while revealing the connection, and thus breaking the boundaries of traditional experience in the process of reviewing the history and dissecting the reality. As to text space narrative,Faulkner abandons the traditional stereotyped single mode and actively explores the multi-combination structure of the novel form.Besides, his narrative process often cancels the time leading words, adopts multi-angle narration and multi-clues,and thus achieves the effect of dialogue in the parallel confrontation between the clues of the episodes, showing obvious tendency of spatialization, space form. For Mo Yan,he always puts his crazy even illogical imagination to Chinese great history background, which always enormously promotes the infectious power of his works.
