The Playwriter's Exposition Of The Original Stage Play "Family"

There are three acts of the realistic stage play Family.The first act,which is divided into four sections,mainly explains the circumstances and background of the story.The fitst act tells that the old lady Zhang had acquired thyroid disease and needed surgery and her three children(one son and two daughters)showed different attitudes towards the operation.It reveals different kinds of contradictions below the peaceful surface of the home.The second act,which is divided into three sections,mainly depicts the old lady's three children arguing with the hospital in three totally different respectives after the surgical accident of their mother who can no longer speak after the surgery.The first section tells that the old lady Zhang and his eldest daughter Li Xiaoying wanted to fight for their own rights but were intercepted by security guards.The second section tells that the youngest son wanted to get some benefis from the medical disturbance when he heard about this in the hospital;Li Xiaoping,the youngest daughter,argued with the hospital,however,was threatened that her hard-won promotion would fail for some reason.It also showed the conflict between Li Xiaoping's own interests and her mother's interests when youngest Li faced her own best promotion oppurtunity.The third section tells that Li Xiaofeng,the youngest son,who wanted a huge amount of compensation when he knew he had the rights,but he was obstructed by his sister Li Xiaoping;Under the siege of the old lady Zhang's daughter-in-law Qiao Xu and his youngest son Li Xiaofeng,the youngest daughter Li Xiaoping broke out completely and finally the whole situation killed the old lady Zhang indirectly.In the third act,the plot was reversal.The old lady Zhang's daughter-in-law Qiao Xu and his youngest son Li Xiaofeng thought hardly to seek the compensation from the hospita after the death of the old lady Zhang;however,the old lady's three children had a new understanding about affection,money,status and love after reading the old lady's suicide note.The interpretation of the play 'Family' mainly summarized and analyzed the author's creative ideas based on the theme of the play,the characters of the play,and the script writing techniques.By expressionist techniques,the script presents a home full of contradictions under the peaceful surface while people had different pursuit and choices of affection,love,money and status when people facing different perspectives.The interpretation of the script attempts to explore the contradiction between the interest and emotion behind the tragic conflict of the drama in depth,which has certain practical significance.
