With the advancement of world diversification,various series of textbooks have come into being in a rush.And they are under the same syllabus.So it's very significant to evaluate English textbooks.The purpose of this paper is to analyze and compare the dialogues between PEP Version and Ren'ai Version.The aim is to find out the advantages and problems of the two editions,and provide suggestions for the compilations of dialogues in textbooks and suggestions for teachers' use of teaching materials in order to develop communicative competence of students.The thesis analyzes the dialogues between PEP Version and Ren'ai Version.Based on the Criterion of English Curriculum Standards and Cheng Xiaotang's internal evaluation theory,the thesis analyzes the ideology of dialogues,the content of dialogues and the arrangement of dialogues.And as for the ideology of dialogues,the thesis analyzes ideology and morality,cultural awareness and emotional attitude.Besides,this paper analyzes the content of dialogue through topics,the functions of dialogues,authenticity and authenticity of language.The arrangement of dialogues includes analyzing activities setting of dialogues,the importance of the dialogues and the application of the skills.The main research findings are as follows: For the ideology of dialogues,two versions of textbooks have the same emphasis on the requirements of ideology and morality and emotional attitude which is put forward in the Criterion of English Curriculum Standards.And the cultural awareness of dialogues is more focused on "life style".For the content of dialogues,the topics of dialogues in two versions are close to students' daily life,but the types of these topics are not enough,lacking the topic of "safety and rescue" which is proposed in the Criterion of English Curriculum Standards.The distribution of functions is consistent with the table of functions in the English Curriculum Standard.Besides,the materials of dialogues have higher authenticity,but there is also the phenomena of making up materials.For the arrangement of dialogues,two versions of textbooks have many activities in dialogues,and the difficulty ofarranging activities in dialogues of every grade is basically in accordance with the level of students' cognitive development.The differences of two versions of textbooks is that the distribution of dialogues' thoughts in PEP version is more balanced and the content of thoughts is more comprehensive.At the same time,the activities of dialogues in PEP version are more interesting.While the distribution of all kinds of emotional attitude in Ren'ai version is more balanced and the requirements for comprehensive abilities are relatively lower.
