Cognitive Interpretation On "Cold" And The Terms Combined With It

Temperature sensation is one of human basic cognitive experience,the meaning of temperature words,which is generated by metaphor and metonymy,is abundant in Chinese.This paper only selects a typical temperature word “cold” and terms combined with morpheme “cold” as object of study.On the basis of total statistic related corpus,this paper analyzes their structures and semantic connotation,and deeply interprets semantics from the angle of cognitive linguistics.What's more,the paper discusses the development of “cold” and terms combined with it.The paper consists of six chapter.The first chapter briefly introduces the reason,purpose and methods of this research,and source of corpus.The second chapter,with the guidance of modern Chinese lexicology and prototype theory,describes and illustrates structure of the words and phrases including “cold”.The third chapter firstly lists common senses by means of the Great Chinese Dictionary,the Grand Chinese Dictionary,Cihai and Modern Chinese Dictionary,then sorts “cold” and terms combined with it.The forth chapter tries to analyze the metaphor and metonymy of those terms,and induce cognitive basis from it.The fifth chapter discusses the variation of the words and phrases including “cold” in the contemporary society,after that it generalizes motivations of the variation.The last chapter sums up views of whole thesis,and points out the deficiency at the same time.
