Under the condition that there is the rapid development of scientific teachnology, the era of picture-reading has coming.Photography has become a tool for disseminating images because of its efficient convenience, the situation leads people to ignore its depth—photography can also be an art to express emotions and consciousness. The Conceptual Photography,a fast-developing art form in recent years at China, for this phenomenon is a type of photography that conveys ideas and concepts. There were two polarization issues in the quality of works with the emergence of a large number of Conceptual Photography works. On the one hand, the works that its presentation tends to be straightforward and lacking in vagueness has lead the viewers to feel uninteresting when watching. In another hand, the works that are pursuing conceptualism but lacking rational expression has made unable to convey the concepts to the viewer effectively and lost its mission at the same time. Therefore, there is a need to find a guiding theory method that is different from traditional photography but suitable for the Conceptual Photography now.I find that the expression used in Conceptual Photography is metaphorical after fully understanding the features, expressions and fundamental purpose of it.The image element that conveys information in Conceptual Photography can be understood as a visual symbol, though,it is an aid that learning related theories of visual semiotics to understand Conceptual Photography. Therefore,it is a guiding significance for the creation and interpretation of the Conceptual Photography when learning the theory related visual notation. After browsing the historical river of semiotic studies,I discovered that Roland Barthes' theory of visual semiotics is a very important part of semiotic theory. His theoretical viewpoint is extremely breakthrough that breaking many traditional concepts of semiotics and tending to freedom in the analysis of symbols and visual symbols. This is consistent with the characteristics of Concept Photography that try to provide viewers with questions instead of answers.I hope to control the Conceptual Photography better and to make progress in its creation and interpretation in order to promote the development of it in China.
