| This is a translation project report of English-Chinese translation based on the fifth chapter of Citizen of the World: The Life of Pierre Elliot Trudeau written by Canadian author John English.The book,including ten chapters,introduces the growth experience and political participation of Pierre Trudeau in chronological order.As a biographical work,Citizen of the World: The Life of Pierre Elliot Trudeau,with concise and plain language,is characterized by narration and full of political and historical information,thus,the translation of this kind of information is a difficult issue in the translation process.In order to reproduce the linguistic features and style of the original text,the author uses Nida's functional equivalence theory to guide the translation practice and analyzes the translated version mainly from the aspects of semantic equivalence and stylistic equivalence.With the accurate understanding of the related background knowledge,the author aims to reproduce the accurate and plain style of the original text.The translation report is divided into four chapters.Chapter One describes the translation project briefly,containing the source and requirements of the project,and the introduction of the significance of the translation project.Chapter Two talks about the whole translation process,the problems and achievements encountered from the first draft,revised manuscript to the final version.By analyzing and summarizing the problems in the first and second draft,the author aims to make the final version more accurate and completed.Chapter Three is the most important part in the project,which focuses the case analysis and discusses the application of functional equivalence.With the guidance of functional equivalence theory,this chapter compares the translation in first version with the final one.Chapter Four summarizes the entire translation practice,reflects the problems that have arisen,and makes requests forlater work. |
