Study On Li Yingning's Plays

As the representative of female playwrights in the 1980s,Li Yingning's works are small in number,but outstanding personal style with a wide range of topics.Her opinions on women's issues are also very unique.Before the 21th century,Li Yingning focused on grand narratives and created a series of social problem plays and historical plays.Her social problem plays Girl Who Flies Pigeons and Family Reunion proceeded from the family,reflecting the need of the development of the times,and presenting her own unique insights on issues such as elderly care problem,being extorted while helping the old people,and family generation gaps.In her historical plays,she deeply explored the human nature of Pu Songlin and Cao Cao,let the works expressing the spirit beyond the times.Meanwhile,she expressed the faint concern of women in those plays.From a female group devoted to the family in Girl Who Flies Peigons to the three generations of women who control their lives in Family Reunion from Su Gu who sacrificed her life for Pu Songling in Night falk under the cold latern to the Queen Fu and Consort Cao who are resolutely and aggressively trying to change their fate,Li Yingning successfully created a group of female images who can control their own life by growing up with them.Out of her despair for man,and high demands for women,she criticized the women who caught in relationships and marriages in the play Falling Flowers Of Four Seasons which focused on women in the 21th century.As a female playwright,compared to other female playwrights,the variety of the themes and the confidence of shaping female character of Li Yingning's plays is rare.And she constantly uses non-realistic methods to dig into character's psychology and show the relationships between characters,such as time-space interweaving.symbolic,dreams.Li Yingning paid special attention to the problems in social development with her delicate concern of which the male playwrights are lack.She expressed her opinions on the woman's life with severe criticism of which the female playwrights are lack.exploring her own path of writing.
