Onomatopoeia is one of the characteristics of Chinese folk music composition.The history of Onomatopoeia itself is as the same as the history of music.Originally,Onomatopoeia simply used the basic timbre of the instrument to imitating the natural sound.Then,with the using of playing techniques,pitch frequency,and unconventional playing method created by composers etc.,it evolved to express different artistic image and attempt to achieve various artistic effects by imitating different voices from the nature world in composition.After searching for relevant references,the research literature related to this topic mainly involves the following aspects at present: the timbre imitation of Chinese national musical instruments in Chinese piano works;the sound imitation in vocal music;and the instrumental techniques of imitation of sound in Chinese national instrumental music.The thesis consists of an introduction,the main text,and an epilogue.The work is divided into three chapters.The first chapter describes the use of Onomatopoeia in Chinese national orchestral music.The second chapter analyzes the characteristics of Birdsong in hollow valley,Execution in Autumn and Ducks Quacking;and then studies the practical applications of Onomatopoeia in music works,and its effect in building up the musical image.The third chapter summarizes the significance of Onomatopoeia for Chinese music composition and its influence towards the author’s composition.Throughout history,there are many famous onomatopoeic works of Chinese music.This thesis studies and analyzes the specific applications of onomatopoeia in different styles,different periods,and differently compiled Chinese national music works.Also it discusses the different onomatopoeic techniques used in different musical artistic conceptions.Through the exploration of onomatopoeic techniques,and the practice and application of onomatopoeic techniques in musical composition,a conclusion could be draw: onomatopoeic techniques plays an important role in music composition,on the other hand,the demands of the composers for onomatopoeic techniques constantly innovates the playing techniques of the instruments;these two aspects complement one another,and sustainably improve and increasingly explored.
