The Prince, which was written by the famous Italian politician and thinker Niccolo Machiavell, was a masterpiece.Since its publication, the book has been translated into several different language versions and has had widespread and far-reaching impact in academia and has been praised as one of the most influential world classics. The formation of the political ethics thought of The Prince has its own specific theoretical background and social background.Machiavelli is deeply influenced by the political morality of his contemporary writers, who tend to give advice to the monarch, and Cicero's "On Duties"is an important theoretical source of the political ethics thought of The Prince;the influence of the Renaissance, the social conditions in Italy and Machiavelli's personal experience are the important conditions for the formation of the political ethics thought of The Prince.Machiavelli constructed the political ethics with the theory of human nature and destiny as the theoretical basis. The relationship between politics and morality is the core of the political ethics thought of The Prince,Machiavelli distinguishes between political morality and social morality. In his opinion, the former is mainly aimed at the rulers, while the latter is generally directed against the people of one country in other words, sometimes the two are similar, but if there is a conflict between social morality and political morality, political morality takes precedence over social morality. The quality and ability of the monarch is the development of the political ethics of The Prince,Machiavelli focuses on generosity and miserliness, kindness and cruelty, trustworthiness and hypocrisy, and prudence. These qualities and abilities are something that a monarch must possess, such as hypocrisy and prudence, some of which are decided and abandoned by the monarch according to the specific circumstances, such as generosity and miserliness, kindness and cruelty, and trustworthiness.Although the political ethics of The Prince has the limitation of time, class and way of thinking,we can not ignore the uniqueness of its thought, that is,it has the characteristics of empiricism and reality, utilitarianism and contempt of morality, and can not ignore the theoretical contribution of his ideas, that is to say,it plays an important role in the history of western political ethics and promotes the development and improvement of political ethics.,and it has an important influence on Hobbes,Locke,Rousseau and others.Seriously studying the political ethics thought of The Prince can not only lead us to think about some questions, such as whether political evil is an inevitable evil or a necessary evil, whether human beings need a political moralist or a moral politician, etc, but also has the important reference and Enlightenment to our country's construction of political civilization and state governance.
