The will of helping refers to the individual to help others and take the initiative to care about the willingness to act,it can predict the individual’s helping behavior.Although China’s economy continues to develop, the degree of development of social civilization is far behind of the economic. Many seemingly perplexed things happen repeatedly. From the Little Yue Yue incident in 2011 to the innocent people being berated by the Beijing subway in 2017,let us think about why we are so indifferent.Mencius said everyone has the heart to sympathy, and the existence of these unbearable heart make people have the will to help others, and then show help behavior. In psychology, researchers call indifference as empathy..Is the apathy between people because of lacking of empathy? Looking at the current research on empathy and willingness to help others, the research findings of the researchers show inconsistent results. The reason of this phenomenon is that,On the one hand,it is because empathy is divided into trait empathy and state empathy, but researchers have not distinguished in the study;on the other hand, individual willingness to help others is influenced by other factors in addition to empathy.Such as: the individual’s experience, the characteristics of the situation encountered.Based on this, this study explores the influence of empathy and help-seeking experience on willingness to help people at different costs by combining empathy and helper experience. This study contains three sub-studies,one of which is mainly to prepare materials for subsequent studies.Study 2 Adopts a 2-empathic(start-up,not start-up)× 2 help-act cost(high, low)× 2 A mix of extra costs(high and low)To explore the impact of empathy on the willingness to help behavior under different costs.Study 3,Under the circumstances of certain costs, mainly adopted 2 experiences of seeking help(help being helped, seeking help rejected)× 2 inter-trial design that experienced similarities(similar, dissimilar)to Explore whether the applicant’s previous experience of seeking help will affect its status empathy and willingness to help people who seek help,as well as the relationship between the three. The results are as follows:(1)The interaction between state empathy and helper costs is significant. In a high-cost context, state empathy initiation can promote individuals’ willingness to help people, and in low-cost scenarios, whether or not the individual’s state is initiated to empathize with their willingness to help others The difference was not significant.(2)The impact of extra costs on individual’s willingness to help others is greater than the cost of the behavior itself.(3)The level of state empathy and willingness to help people in the assisted group were significantly higher than those in the group who refused help.In the help-seeking group, when the individual faces a similar or dissimilar help-seeker with their own help-seeking experience, there is no significant difference in their willingness to help others, but in the rejected group, the individual faces a helper similar to their own help-seeking experience. At that time, their willingness to help others was significantly higher than that of helpers who were not similar to their own help-seeking experience.(4)State empathy has played a partial intermediary role between the experience of seeking help and the willingness to help others.
