Abstract/Summary:
Mowinckel was a famous scholar of Bible studies in the 20 th century. His Messianic thoughts had a certain influence on the contemporary scholar’s.His book He that cometh was regarded as one of the best book of the OT scholarship in their generation. The systematic analysis and expounding of his Messiah thoughts are of great significance for developing the Western Messiah’s thoughts. The purpose of this study is to interpret Mowinckel’s texts, using textual annotations, comparative analysis, and other methods to deeply analyze the profound implications of the theory and strive to give this theory a fair judgement. The paper mainly discusses the Messianic terminology interpretation and the unique arguments of Messianic prophecy, providing a theoretical background for the subsequent Messianic thought.Through analysis,Mowinckel believes that the Messiah appeared in the post-exile period and has eschatology attributes and political colors.Mowinckel believes that understanding the Messiah systematically,we must answer three questions: What is the source from which is derived the content of the Messianic figure with all its varied traits? What is the origin of the actual expectation of a saviour king or Messiah? In what way did the concept of ‘Yahweh’s Anointed’develop,so that the earthly, political king became the eschatological figure ? In order to answer these three questions, the author divides Mowinckel’s Messianic thoughts into three chapters, which in order to clear up eschatology attributes and political colors of Messiah.Through careful study, the author believes that the content of the Messianic figure comes from the kingly ideal of ancient Israel and that is derived from the royal ideology of the ancient East and the ‘Yahweh’ Anointed’ which grow out of Yahwism from Israel.Messianic hope originated from the future hope of the Israeli people, and the Messiah originated from the ideal king in the hope of the future.Future hope develops into later Eschatology through the combination of Dualism. The King of hope in the early future will develop into the Messiah under the influence of dualism. From the origin to the development, the king of hope in the future and the Messiah in eschatology constitute the complete development process of Messiah. This paper try hard to analyze clearly Messiah concept of Sigmund Mowinckel,in order tomake a contribution in the field of research Messiah.
