Zhao Mengfu's Early Thought And The Study Of The Mind Landscape Of Xie Youyu

According to Book Sixteen of Shigutang Painting Collection and Examination by Bian Yongyu of Qing dynasty,Zhao Mengfu had two different paintings named “The Mind Landscape of Xie Youyu”.This paper starts with the detection of forgeries of “The Mind Landscape of Xie Youyu by Zhao Wenmin” and “The Mind Landscape of Youyu with Inscriptions by Zhao Weigong”,analyzing the historical and social background of Zhao Mengfu when he was young,as well as the formation of his early thoughts.Through deep research on the creation techniques and artistic style of “The Mind Landscape of Xie Youyu”,this paper intends to find the connections between these two areas.From the four aspects of the changes in the realm,the transformation of his family,his Confucianism and Taoism thoughts and different phenomenon that he encountered after his officialdom,this paper uncovers Zhao Mengfu's life experience of becoming an official,showing his ability,suffering jealous from his colleagues,demonstrating his character,showing his first intention of reclusion,until demonstrating his wishes of retiring into a quiet life in the nature through “The Mind Landscape of Xie Youyu”.I think the formation of Zhao Mengfu's early thought is a gradual process.His experience of changes in the realm and his family,his influence by Confucianism and Taoism ideas at the same time,and his sufferings after officialdom all have important impact on the formation of his early thoughts.He was a very secretive person who seldom expressed his thoughts to others,and his treatment of poems and other people all depended on different conditions,showing a very complicated soul.Zhao Mengfu has been a government official for over 30 years,receiving great honor in court,yet his great influence on later generation is through his poems,verses,calligraphies and paintings.Towards the first Emperor of Yuan dynasty,he showed loyalty,respect and fear.In his political career,he was familiar in the way of the officialdom.In treating poetry and other people,he demonstrated complex and tangled inner feelings.In the face of the most intimate friends,he had another world to show,which is the wish of retiring into a world of nature,demonstrating the love of the mountains and rivers,and entrusting his thoughts and ideas into the world of literary and artistic works.
