The writing of ethics in contemporary novels is different from the portrayal of brave and just heroes in traditional novels, and the direct punishment for evil is to pay close attention to the plight of individuals in real life.In life, people always fall into various moral dilemmas unconsciously.Moral dilemma refers to the dilemma that the behavior individual is unable to make moral choices between good and evil, right and wrong in the face of the existing moral and ethical norms.Mc Intyre, the philosopher, holds that moral dilemma does exist and divides it into three types: social role conflict dilemma, normative moral dilemma and multi-quality moral dilemma.American contemporary writer Judi Picoult is good at catching sensitive social topics such as euthanasia death, penalty, youth suicide and so on.This paper takes three moral dilemmas of Macintyre as the basic frame of the article, focusing on the analysis of the moral dilemmas described in Judi Picoult's novels while using narrative concepts, such as narrator, narrative perspective, unreliable narration and implied author's intention to explore the specific moral and ethical views expressed by the writer through the novel.Chapter 1.This paper mainly describes the definition of moral dilemmas of social roles in philosophy and the reasons for their formation,as well as the embodiment of moral dilemmas of social roles in Judi Picoult's novels. This chapter uses narrative concepts such as narrator, narrative perspective and unreliable narration to analyze the dilemma of social role conflict embodied by characters in Judi's novels. It analyzes the contradiction between the father Oliver in Songs of the Humpback Whale and the father Brian in My Sister's Keeper to present the contradiction between the different characters of the same body, and discusses the conflict within the same character,i.e.the plight of Margie, the lawyer in Change of Heart.Chapter 2 The main analysis of normative moral dilemmas.Mac Intyre believes that there are two contradictions in modern society, that is,the contradiction between individual life demands and public moral norms, and the existence of contradictions between the organized field and the private field leading people to question the existing moral norms.Inaddition, the moral norms have relativity and limitation. This chapter reflects the normative moral dilemma in individual life by Jodi Picoult's narrative strategy analyzing the transformation of the moral principles of Peter and Joyce in Nineteen minutes.Chapter 3 It mainly talks about the dilemma of multiple quality. The pluralistic quality here in Macintyre is equal to "good".Macintyre divides the good into external goodness and inner goodness, which are often opposite and contradictory in life.Besides, the conflict exists between different internally good people. This chapter conducts the analysis of The Tenth Circle,Nineteen Minutes and other novels of the opposition of the good to present the multi-character dilemma.
