Practice Study Report On E-C Translation Of Unstoppable:My Life So Far(Excerpts)

This translation practice study report is based on the author’s process of translation practice of tennis player Maria Sharapova’s autobiography: Unstoppable: My Life So Far.The author met the difficulties in vocabulary and syntax during the process of translation practice.Through the study of the translation process and the analysis of the translation difficulties with Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation theory as the instruction,the author summarizes the corresponding translation strategies and methods,to provide reference and enlightenment to improve the English-Chinese translation of autobiography.Biography literature is both historical and literary.The historical documentary requires the translator to follow the original text,and the translation accurately conveys the original information.Literariness requires the translator to play the subjective initiative and use various translation methods to enhance the readability of the translation.The semantic translation theory of Newmark follows the structure of the original text,so that the translation can reproduce the original style,and the communicative translation can reproduce the original text and make the translation smooth and natural.The two translation methods complement each other and guide the translation of biographical literature.In this paper,the author briefly introduced the translation project and analyzed the translation difficulties.Secondly,the translation process,including pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation evaluation,is briefly introduced.After that,the author makes a detailed analysis of the semantic translation and communicative translation theory and the guidance and application of the translation.Then combined with the semantic translation and communicative translation theory,the translation difficulties and the specific cases were analyzed,exploring possible translation method,and generalized and summarized respectively from the application of semantic translation and communicative translation from two aspects of the application of to meet the expectations of biographical text translation.The translation practice take Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation theory as the instruction,summarizes four translation strategies from two aspects of semantic translation and communicative translation,which are understanding the lexical meaning,retaining the original sentence,increasing word appropriately,using four words idioms,processing sentence flexibly,to provide reference for the future translation of biographies.
