From 1920 to 1930,modern Korean literature was the most activeperiod, and naturalism was the most popular among many literary trends.Naturalism is a genre of Western literature. It originated in Francein the second half of the nineteenth Century, and spread to Europe and the United States and the rest of the world in the late nineteeth Century and early twentieth Century.Naturalistic literature is theproduct of the transformation of western realism literature to the extreme.Naturalism literature is the result of realism literature absorption of positivism, hereditary theory and determinism.Naturalism is an important school of modern literature and a transitional School of modern literature to modern literature. It has a profound influence on the ideological trend of the modernist literature in the twentieth Century. The pursuit of irrational and unconsciousness in modernist literature is inherited from naturalism.Naturalism as a bridge linking realism and modernism plays an important role in connecting the past and the future.Jin Dongren is the pioneer of Korean modern novels. The most representative literary thought is naturalism.Jin Dongren did not rigidly copy the naturalism from Western Europe, but let them privatize, integrate into their novels, and form a literature with personal characteristics. The naturalistic characteristics of Jin Dongren's literatureare mainly materialism, determinism and anti morality.Jin Dongren's naturalistic literary view and literary creation spirit are ofgreat value to Korean modern literature. This thesis takes the protagonists in Jin Dongren's novels as the center to study the naturalistic tendencies in Jin Dongren's novels. The second chapter of the thesis first discusses the literary situation in 1920s and Jin Dongren's literary propositions and works tendencies. The third chapter discusses the heroines in Jin Dongren's novels, mainly studying their degeneration and ignorance and their significance. The fourth chapter discusses the male protagonists in Jin Dongren's novels, studying their ignorance and awakening and their significance. The fifth chapter is the conclusion drawn from the discussion of the first three chapters.Through the study of the naturalistic tendency in Jin Dongren's novels this paper makes a specific analysis of the heroines in Jin Dongren's novels, and thus has a further understanding of Jin Dongren's literary propositions and works.Jin Dongren is indeed thepioneer of modern Korean literature. His works not only have his unique personality, but also bring curiosity and freshness to readers.Secondly, his novels not only have high literary value, but also are evaluated in the modern short story king. Therefore, taking the image of the hero as the center to study the naturalistic tendency in Jin Dongren's novels is of great value to further understanding naturalism and there will be a more thorough understanding of the novels of the 1920s.
