| Critical thinking is an important thinking ability that students should have,in recent years,more and more teachers begin to pay attention to cultivate students’ critical thinking.Teacher questioning is a basic instrument in the process of classroom teaching,which is the most important way to promote the communication and interaction between teachers and students in the classroom.Teacher questioning can diagnose teaching,and arouse students’ thinking to develop their thinking ability.So far,there are a lot of respectively researches focusing on teacher questioning and critical thinking at home and abroad,however,there are rare researches on combining both of them.This study mainly aims to explore the following three questions on the basis of the types of teacher questioning and students’ critical thinking dispositions: how teacher questioning is used in Senior One English class;the situation of students’ critical thinking dispositions;whether there exists some correlation on different types of teacher questioning and students’ critical thinking dispositions.This study mainly adopts classroom observation which continues for three months to analyze the English teachers’ questioning in the teaching process,taking three English teachers’ questioning in the reading class from Senior One in one school of Chengdu as examples,the situation of teacher questioning is analyzed on the basis of teaching audios transferring into texts,and then the Chinese Version of California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory(CCTDI-CV)test questionnaire is given to all the three classes of students to know the situation of students’ critical thinking dispositions.Combining classroom observation and the questionnaire,we can know how the different types of teacher questioning used in the English classroom teaching and the overall situation of students’ critical thinking dispositions.The results show that English teachers mainly focus on the knowledge comprehension in the teaching process and the overall situation of critical thinking dispositions of students is not good.In the last part of this study,through the data collection and analysis,the finding is that there exists some correlation between types of teacher questioning and critical thinking dispositions.Through the survey-based research,this study analyzes the correlation between different types of teacher questioning in English classes and students’ dispositions of critical thinking so that it tries to give some suggestions for the cultivation of critical thinking and further related studies on critical thinking dispositions. |
