The Study On Performances And Story Texts Of Sheng Yu Preaching

The preaching of Sheng Yu is the main political means by which the rulers of Qing Dynasty enacted the people’s thoughts and standardized the behavior of the people.In the process of spreading from leaders to common people,the Sheng Yu preaching spread gradually from the official to the popular to become a folk recreational activity.The forms and contents of the Sheng Yu preaching are also subject to some changes.In terms of form,the formal process ritual evolved from the official preaching of the ordination into the performance form of the folk entertainment,and finally evolved into a new Quyi opera.In terms of content,the text of the ordination merged with Shan Shu in folk to become the story texts,which called preaching novels.Not only that,thanks to the efforts of local artistes,the living performance form of preaching the Sheng Yu can be seen through the method of field investigation,which is mostly same as its in the Qing Dynasty.The preaching of Sheng Yu is one of the form in rap literary,whose performance forms and texts are undoubtedly the most direct and conspicuous part of the Sheng Yu propaganda activity.It has great significance both in literary studies and historical studies.However,the vast majority of studies focused on the background of the preaching of the Sheng Yu to discuss the system of the Sheng Yu Writ in the Qing Dynasty,the research on the forms of its performances and the texts of the stories are still not enough.Therefore,this paper tries to put the chanting performance form into the background of rapping literature to discuss the literary characteristics of the performing activities.And discussing its story texts’ literariness in the perspective of Chinese vernacular short stories.In this paper,I first sort out the predecessors’ research status and put forward the questions by the introduction part,so as to clarify the meaning and relationship of the important nouns such as preaching,performance forms,story texts and so on,to clarify the significance and innovation of the research.Then I will explain the popularization of preaching forms and preaching texts’diversified development gradually.It points out the trend of the preaching of Sheng Yu from the official activity to the dominant folk on the one hand.On the other hand.it clearly explains the manifestations and characteristics of performance forms and texts of the preaching of Sheng Yu at different processes.The second chapter focuses on the form of the performance of ShengYu’s preaching from static and active aspects through the methods of various literature and field research,in order to explore its evolution and characteristics,then traces the propaganda performances in Qing Dynasty recorded by living performances,which fully embodying the literary and artistic character.The third chapter is written for the Sheng Yu story books,especially the newly discovered vernacular novels introduced in recent years,such as the nature of the text,the style and the type of the story,the source of material,the folklore of dialect,etc.,fully revealing its literary value and cultural characteristics that are different from other novels,especially the difference with the vernacular novels.
