| With the vigorous development of the internationalization of the sports industry,the sports exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries are becoming more and more frequent.There has been an increasing demand for sports escort interpreters as well as the higher requirements for their interpreting.The author participated in the Vanuatu Sport Technical Support Project for Pacific Mini Games from May 27 to September 22,2017 as the interpreter for Vanuatu boxing team.The author’s job was to provide interpreting service to Vanuatu boxing team in sports training,medical treatment for injuries and sightseeing during their staying in Kunming,Yunnan Province.Based on the interpreting experience during the internship,the report describes in detail the pre-interpreting preparation and interpreting process,in which a large number of examples are used to analyze the characteristics of sports escort interpreting from three aspects: vocabulary,sentence structure and requirements for interpreters.It also summarizes the challenges the author has encountered in sports escort interpreting,hoping to provide some effective coping strategies for sports escorts interpreting.In order to make better reflection on the interpreting work,the author collected the evaluations of the interpreting work from the host organization and fellow interpreters,and conducted the self-evaluation at the same time.The report summarizes in an objective way the interpreting internship project in terms of significance of the internship project,the author’s work summary and the professionalism of sports escort interpreters.The four-month internship project has in effect enabled the author to gather valuable experience in sports escort interpreting,thus providing references and guidance for the author’s future interpreting work.The author hopes that this paper will provide references for future interpreters. |
