Multimodal discourse analysis was developed in the 1990 s,and it is an independent forefront academic research field based on the discourse analysis. The analysis only focus on the text and language cannot meet the need for the communication, and the image, sound, gestures, music and other semiotic systems play a more and more important role and fulfill the study on the discourse analysis.Multimodal discourse analysis(MDA)integrates the language and other semiotic systems in order to make the function of language system adopted in the communication can be seen by the viewers and let them realize the effect of images and other semiotic systems,so the viewers can have a more accurate way to understand language.Filmic discourse contains text, image, sound and many other modalities, which makes the multimodal discourse analysis more useful in analyzing the modalities. The three meanings in visual grammar are adopted into the analysis of the film. The representational meaning with the vectors can be further divided into narrative process and conceptual process. The interactive meaning can present different social relations with the different choices of contact, social distance, perspective and modality. The compositional meaning is realized by information value, framing and salience. In the synthetic analysis of the three meanings, sound is added to fulfill the holistic meaning of the film. This research reinforces the feasibility of the multimodal discourse analysis, and verifies the applicability of visual grammar adopted in the dynamic discourse. With the theoretical framework of the visual grammar, this paper provides the viewers a new angle to analyze filmic discourses with multimodal discourse analysis, which is more accurate. This study also enhances people's multimodal literacy and makes a better communication between dynamic film discourses and the viewers.
