The Reflection On The Creation Of Xunpu Women

This graduate work can be regarded as a summary of three years of postgraduate study and also an essential means to dig deeper into Chinese painting art and appreciate its charms in the future.Through these three years of practices of creating artworks myself,I not only consolidated my professional knowledge,but also improved my professional skills.In the meantime,I get a new perspective of Chinese paintings,especially Chinese figure paintings.The three-year valuable learning experience will be a new starting point in my life in terms of life itself,leaning and creation of arts.I choose Xunpu women from my hometown as the theme.Xunpu women mainly sell seafood for a living,who for generations live in the beautiful city of Quanzhou.Most of them inhabit in Xunpu Village of the Donghai Community of Fengze District.Xunpu women,along with Hui’an women and Meizhou women,jointly presents the image of the fisherwomen of Fujian Province.They often up-do their hair into a wreath shape and wear flowers as hair accessories,which is known as"the head garden".Dressed in unique costumes,they walk around the market places with a shoulder pole.The reason why I choose Xunpu women as my theme is that I am fascinated by their unique charms of their customs and traditions and that few people capture their beauty by ink wash paintings.As a folk from Guangzhou,I not only have an overall impression of Xunpu women,but also have a geographical advantage to present their image.My series paintings Xunpu Women focus on their lifestyle.Combining the characteristics of the Southern Fujian Culture and Xunpu women’s unique customs and traditions,I depict them through ink wash paintings,a kind of traditional Chinese painting.After collecting a lot of material and reading numerous reference books,I started to work on it.In the process of creation,I mainly show the women from the aspect of shape,composition and color,and seek to record the most common and iconic scenes in their daily life.Furthermore,I also strive to show their diligence,optimism and tenderness and figure out a powerful artistic language to present them through ink wash paintings.Last but not least,this experience of acquiring theoretical knowledge and practices will inspire more personal thoughts and feelings in me and endow me with the ability to secure my own artistic language with regard to future creations of the same theme and other figure paintings.
