Constructivism is evolved based on the study of children’s cognitive development and is now widely applied in education study. The constructivist learning theory emphasizes that learning is achieved when students,as the center of learning process, absorb and integrate new knowledge and then reorganize their original cognitive structures. This thesis is based on constructivist learning theory and intended to answer the question of what kind of textbooks that interpreting students want, and how to optimize interpreting textbooks to meet students’ expectations. To this end, this thesis selects six students from a foreign studies university’s interpreting program and conducts semi-structured interviews under the guidance of constructivism,so as to understand their needs and expectations for interpreting teaching materials, hoping to make contribution to future textbook compilation.Interviewees, expectation could be concluded in the following:they hope to see more typical practicing materials that cover different topics;they hope that audio materials could be clear and authentic;they hope to see various contents in the preparation part;they hope that interpreting skills could be taught with examples;they hope to see reference versions with interpreting characteristics;they also hope to see a textbook which integrates written materials and electronic resources.
