The translation report is focused on the difficulties and methods during the E-C translation of The Last of the Menu Girls.The famous American Hispanic woman writer,Dennis Chávez’s The Last of the Menu Girls is a set of eight short stories,which tells the growth story of Rocío Esquibel.The fifth story of the book has been translated under the guidance of Susan Bassnett’s Cultural Translation Theory.And the translator uses different methods,such as transliteration,imitation translation,literal translation and demolition to analyze the culture plays an important role in translation process of Chicano works,especially in this translation project.So translation is the cultural communication.The translation report is made up of six parts.At the beginning,it introduces the translation project and description,introduces the background of this original text,the cause and significance of the material,and the characteristics of sentences;the second part is the task process,it tells the tasks of the preparatory work,translation process and arrangement;the third part is an analysis of the literature,a detailed description of the research status at home and abroad of application of cultural translation theory in Chicano works and The Last of the Menu Girls,points out the concern and research status of Dennis Chávez’s works;the fourth part is Susan Bassnett’s Cultural Translation Theory;the fifth part is the analysis of the case,citing examples from the vocabulary such as proper nouns,Spanish and “fragments” words,and hybrid,Culturally-implied and kǜnstleroman sentences to dialogue translation,to analysis the translation methods and strategies from citing the examples;the last part summarizes some experience and lessons from this project and problems to be solved. |
