The Comparison Of "Suan Le" (算 了)and"wan Le" (完了)

This paper concentrates on comparing the meaning and usage of "Suan Le"(算了)and "Wan Le"(完了)when they are used in written and spoken language.This article combines synchronic study with diachronic study in order to describe and analyze "Suan Le"(算了)and "Wan Le"(完了)in semantics,grammar and pragmatics.According to the analysis of concerned corpus and the character of "Suan Le"(算了)and "Wan Le"(完了),this paper argues about their similarity and differences.Hence,this article is divided into six parts:The first part is the introduction,which refers to the subject,significance of this subject and relevant research methods.And then,it lists the present study situation in the field of "Suan Le"(算了)and "Wan Le"(完了).It is apparent that most of previous studies mainly focused on the similarity of word family of "X Le" or the character of a specific word rather than the comparative study of these words.The next part is the analysis about the semantics.Because both of "Suan Le"(算了)and "Wan Le"(完了)has its own three different kinds of usages in semantics,this part tends to describe and analyze the meanings of those words from semantic orientation and style.This method is not only comparing those three usages of "Wan Le"(完了)and"Suan Le"(算了)respectively in the group,but it also points out the difference between"Suan Le"(算了)and "Wan Le"(完了).The third part aims to compare the difference between "Suan Le"(算了)and"Wan Le"(完了)from the perspective of grammar,which mainly includes syntactic properties of words,syntactic position and variants.Firstly,this part judges and analyzes syntactic properties of different types of "Suan Le"(算了)and "Wan Le"(完了).Then,it verifies syntactic properties of those words by syntactic position and variants.The fourth part also compares the the difference between"Suan Le"(算了)and"Wan Le"(完了),but it is based on pragmatics study.After observing the number and frequency of occurrence,this part shows that "Suan Le"(算了)and "Wan Le"(完了)is more frequently used in spoken language than those used in the written language.According to the characteristics of "Suan Le"(算了)and "Wan Le"(完了),which shows in the spoken language,this part analyzes the usage and function of discourse markers of "Suan Le"(算了)and"Wan Le"(完了).The fifth part aims to verify the main ideas of the last three parts mentioned before by concentrating on the evolution process of "Suan Le"(算了)and "Wan Le"(完了)from the perspective of diachronic study.Therefore,by describing the evolution process of grammaticalization and lexicalization of "Suan Le"(算了)and "Wan Le"(完了)in four periods:Yuan Dynasty,Ming Dynasty,Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China,this paper contributes to arguing the different reasons why grammaticalization and lexicalization of those two words happen.The last part is the conclusion,which provides the the main points and the inadequacy of this paper.
