Research On Beacon Sites Along Qin Zhi Dao

The historic beacon sites along Qin Zhi Dao preserved up to now in Gansu and Shanxi are the important information to study the relationship between the Qin Zhi Dao and the beacon.In the past,the study mostly focused on the significance of the Qin Zhi Dao route and setting,but the research work on the ancillary facilities along Qin Zhi Dao is not sufficient,which is not conducive to a comprehensive and systematic understanding of Qin Zhi Dao.The article contains a large collection of information about beacon sites along Qin Zhi Dao in Gansu and Shanxi.According to the rammed layer thickness and building material ruins found near beacon sites,it can be inferred that building age of the beacon sites mostly is the Qin and Han Dynasties.Through the collection of beacon sites information,the beacon shape along the Qin Zhi Dao mostly is round table,there are also some square table shape beacons.The beacon was rammed up for the loess,and the rammed soil was relatively pure.There was no female wall or bunker setting.The Qin and Han Dynasties historic sites are found near the beacon sites,and those sites might be for the beacon logistics supplies.After on-the-spot investigation and data analysis of historic beacon sites along Qin Zhi Dao,it reveals that the distance between beacons along Zhi Dao and Zhi Dao is short.Taking advantage of Qin Zhi Dao building along the ridge,beacons along Qin Zhi Dao are mostly set at the commanding point with no obstacles to vision.Also beacons setting is not follow the principle of five miles per pier.And the setting of the beacon is more densely at the main roads.After a systematic study of Zhi Dao and beacon,it is found that there is an interdependent relationship between the beacon along Zhi Dao and the Zhi Dao traffic.From the point of the relationship between Zhi Dao and the beacon,and combined with information of other areas beacon set up near the traffic line,traffic and beacons two complement each other.Beacon arranged near the traffic line is facilitate the logistics of guardians,also can fully play its role;At the same time,beacon is part of a military defense system with traffic as the center,and its early warning function can protect traffic beacon.The setting of beacons along Zhi Dao is not only consolidatethe dynasty rule,but also protect the passing business travelers.
