On The Slippery Slope Argument And The Legitimacy Of Same-sex Marriage

This thesis mainly discusses the criticism against same-sex marriage from the Slippery Slope Argument,replies to it and argues for the legitimacy of same-sex marriage.The paper includes introduction,four chapters and the conclusion.The introduction part illustrates research background,significance,status and writing ideas.Chapter One introduces the homosexuals’ formation theory,living condition of homosexuals,and s marriage patterns,the dilemma of homosexuals to get marriage.Chapter Two provides a theoretical analysis of the slipper slope argument and its criticism for same-sex marriage indicates the significance of slipper slope’s criticism.Chapter Three replies to slippery slope argument.From the perspective of marriage system,children’s physical and mental growth,traditional morality,human perceptions,and doctrine,slipper slope’s criticisms for same-sex marriage have been proved invalid.Chapter Four argues for same-sex marriage legitimacy.Using the Hare’s preference-utilitarianism,Rousseau’s social contract theory,and Butler’s gender performativity,the thesis confirms that same-sex marriage is legitimate.From the perspective of Hare’s utilitarian principle based on universalism and four steps moral reasoning method,slipper slope have been proved not to work,and same-sex marriage is confirm to social utility maximization.In light of Rousseau’s ideas of human inequality and "will of all" of a society,It can be justified that same-sex marriage is a basic human right.Through Butler’s gender performativity theory,heterosexual marriage system has been proved invalid,and same-sex marriage can guarantee couples’ relationship and interests.To sum up with,it has shown that same-sex marriage legitimacy is "climbing",which is good for social development.
