The Specialty Catalogue for Undergraduate Majors of Higher Educational School,issued by Ministry of Education in 2012,set visual communication design major as the second-class subject of art theory for the first time,and has accelerated its development in recent years.Curriculum reform,as an important educational reform for higher education,is the key solution for enhancing our higher education quality.As a new major,despite that visual communication design has drawn attention by advanced design major of higher education;it still lacks researching results centered by curriculum.Moreover,before most of the major's reform in general,the issues lack definite practical meaning.The essay studies curriculum of visual communication design of our country in recent years and analyzes the current conditions in depth,explores the problems of the curriculum and makes some contribution to the optimizing of curriculum.The essay consists of 6 chapters.Chapter 1 primarily illustrate the background significance for choosing the topic,introduces the studying thinking and methods,clears up and reviews domestic and foreign studies.Chapter 2 majorly clarifies the concepts of visual communication design and its curriculum and studies the influential factors of this major.Chapter 3 takes history as a mirror,combines some studying results of education workers and makes a simple review of the history of visual communication design major both in domestic and foreign environments in the past century.Chapter 4 focuses on the present conditions and major problems of visual communication design of our country at present.First of all,the author specifically investigates the training purpose,curriculum,and subjects,contents and values orientation of visual communication design,based on 4 different undergraduate schools of this major.It aims to learn about the current conditions of visual communication design of this major at universal meaning.The author also carries out questionnaire and interviews on internal students and graduates who graduate from several universities in Wuhan,and deeply explores the problems in the curriculum of visual communication design in our country.Chapter 5 regards western higher education visual communication design major as a reference,to take the first-class higher education school—Maryland Institute College of Art as an example,the author aims to obtain some inspirations after analyzing the bachelor degree curriculum.Chapter 6 combines the current conditions,case analysis and relative conclusions from foreign investigations,then brings up suggestions for improvement for visual communication design major which is guided by the instructions of the curriculum in China.
