Based On Face Perception Adaption Processing Of Expression And Gender Information

Objective: Faces convey a great amount of information to human,including person's gender,expression,race,and age et al.A number of studies have used different paradigms(such as prime,Garner paradigm et al)to investigate the face attributes and the perceptual processing of their relationship.Such paradigms reflects the characteristics of instantaneous processing,but this study used faces adaption paradigm to research faces and from the perspective of information flow discussed the relationship between facial expression and gender dimension.Methods: Used face-adaption paradigm,cognitive bias of the participants as a measurement index,,the participants completed the task of expression and gender judgment.Results: Experiment 1 and experiment 2 reflects the processing of facial expression and gender is interaction.The experiment 1 from the perspective of face-adaption to investigate the influence of gender to the recognition of facial expression,results showed that the interaction of the expression of adaptive faces,the gender of adaptive faces and the gender of detective faces is significant,F(1,39)=18.354,p<0.001;Further analysis showed that after adaptive female happy faces,detective faces the same female faces,produced a significant amount of expression aftereffect(t=6.191,p<0.01);after adaptive female sad faces,detective faces the male faces,produced a significant amount of expression aftereffect(t=4.764,p<0.01).The Experiment 2 from the perspective of face-adaption to investigate the influence of expression to the recognition of facial gender,results showed that the interaction of the expression of adaptive faces,the gender of adaptive faces and the expression of detective faces is significant,F(1,39)=4.736,p<0.05;Further analysis showed that after adaptive male sad faces,detective faces the same sad faces,produced a significant amount of gender aftereffect(t=4.283,p<0.01);after adaptive male happy faces,detective faces the sad faces,produced a significant amount of gender aftereffect(t=2.294,p<0.05).Conclusion: Based on face adaptive paradigm,when completed the expression task,gender affected facial expression recognition,it produced gender-contingent expression aftereffects;when completed the gender task,expression affected gender recognition,it produced expression-contingent gender aftereffects.Thus proving that their processing is interaction.
