Chinese is a kind of tone language, can express different semantic through tone. The non-tonal languages of indo-european do not have this characteristic,so,the research about tone information has become a unique aspect of the Chinese language study. In addition, when the words have same segmental information,we change the tone of the word can express different meanings, tone plays an important role in the spoken language processing, but, how important is the tone information, compared with the segmental information, who first work? Whose role is more important? Which hemisphere of the brain processing Tone? These become important issues in Chinese spoken language processing. In this research,we use Chinese as experimental material, explore the role of spoken Chinese in the context by the method of ERP,we play close attention to the brain activation patterns of tones by using LORETA source localization technology. This study have high restrictive context and low restrictive context,we investigate the role of tone and segmental information(vowels, consonants)in different contexts. Each experiment has four experimental conditions, the target word consistent with the sentence context, tone violation, vowel violation, consonant violation. We ask participants to judge whether the sentence they heard are semantic consistency. The results showed that:(1)In the context of high restriction, tones and segmental information(vowels, consonants)played the same role and processed at the same time. The maximal activation area of tone violation was located in the right of Middle Frontal Gyrus.(2)In the context of low restriction, tones and segmental information(vowels, consonants)played the same role and processed at the same time. The maximal activation area of tone violation was located in the right of Middle Frontal Gyrus.(3)The difference restrictive of sentence did not affect the relative function and the relative time course of tone and segmental information. The results support the acoustic hypothesis.
