Objective:Exploring a modified reduction alar plasty, which can effectively reduce nasal base width and correct alar flare without alar distortion,And achieving to a natural nasal shape. Methods:We applied the use of the wedge resection of the alar sidewall and internal rotation to the reduction alar plasty.A retrospective chart review of 16 Chinese patients who underwent reduction alar plasty between Jan.2017 and Jan.2019 was performed.Mean change in alar base width and nasal width was compared to assess narrowing efficacy in this operation. Results:All patients were satisfied with the postoperative results, and there was no obvious complications. In the 16 patients, the inter-alar width was reduced by 10.2%in 3 months after surgery, and the nasal base width was reduced by 7.6%.The alar hypertrophy and broad nasal base have achieved to a great improvement, and natural nasal shape were observed after operative. There were no postoperative complications such as infection of the surgical incision, alar distortion, noticeable scarring, and obstruction of nasal ventilation. Conclusion:Modified reduction alar plasty is effective and reliable in the treatment of alar hypertrophy without obvious postoperative complications, and an effective surgical method for the clinical solution of the alar hypertrophy.
