As an external stimulation, acupuncture can produce clinical effects through the central nervous system.Previous studies have focused more on the effects of traditional acupuncture on the brain, while there is still a lack of research on how electroacupuncture affects the brain.Electroencephalogram(EEG)can reflect the features of the cerebral cortex's electrical activity in a relatively comprehensive way. Therefore,in this paper we design the experiment of applying electroacupuncture at zusanli acupoint and collecting EEG signals. Then we quantitatively analyze the changes of EEG signals caused by electroacupuncture using modern information processing technology to evaluate the effects of electroacupuncture on the brain. In order to quantitatively analyze the effects of electroacupuncture on the brain, power spectrum analysis is applied to extract the energy characteristic of EEG signals in different electroacupuncture states. It is shown that the energy of EEG signals is increased in alpha band and decreased in beta band in the state of electroacupuncture. In addition, the energy of EEG signals is increased in both delta and alpha band in the state of after electroacupuncture. The characteristic of high-order phase information of EEG signals is extracted by using bispectral analysis, and it is found that the number of bispectral peak, the bispectral entropy and the bispectral weighted frequency center are increased in the state of electroacupuncture and after electroacupuncture, indicating that electroacupuncture enhances the complexity of phase coupling,non-linearity and non-gaussian of EEG signals. In order to quantitatively analyze the effects of electroacupuncture on the brain further,we calculate phase lag index between any two channeils of EEG signals in the whole brain region to acquire the phase synchronization matrix to describe the synchronization. Then the brain function network is constructed based on the phase synchronization matrix, then we quantitatively analyze the effects of electroacupuncture on the brain by analyzing the changes of topological parameters of brain function network. It is found that electroacupuncture can enhance the synchronization of EEG signals in alpha band.In addition, electroacupuncture promotes the connection of brain functional networks, improves the efficiency of information transmission and enhances the small-world characteristics of brain functional networks in alpha band. The research results in this paper provide basis for revealing the effect of electroacupuncture on the brain.
