Analysis Of Topiramate On The Control Of Anxiety Disorders In Children With Tourette Syndrome

Objective: In this study,topiramate was used to treat children with Tourette syndrome.By using Yale Global Tic Severity Scale and Parent Symptom Questionnaire to evaluate the value of topiramate in children with Tourette syndrome through self-control and comparison with tiapride group.Methods: 80 children with Tourette syndrome were randomly divided into two groups: 40 cases in the experimental group(topiramate,take 0.5-1mg/kg per day for 1 week,then add 0.5-1mg/kg/day every week,the target dose is controlled at 1-2mg/kg per day)and 40 cases in the control group(tiapride,give 50 mg each time,2 times a day for 1 week,and then add 50 mg per week to maintain the dose at 50-150 mg per day)for 6 months.The patients will have regular out-patient follow-up every 1to 2 months.The subjects were assessed by Yale Global Tic Severity Scale and Parent Symptom Questionnaire before and 6 months after treatment.Results: 1.Before treatment,the median value of Yale Global Tic Severity Scale in the experimental group and the control group was 44.5 and 50.0 respectively,and there is no significant difference(P>0.05);After treatment,there is significant difference between the two groups after treatment(P<0.05),and the median difference before and after treatment in the experimental group is 16.5,which is higher than that in the control group(12.5).2.Before treatment,the median anxiety score of the two groups are both 2.5,and there is no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05);After treatment,there is significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05),and the median difference of the experimental group before and after treatment is 1.25,which is higher than that of the control group(0.00).3.In the control group,one child reported drowsiness after taking tiapride,while the other children in the two groups did not complain of special discomfort.Conculsion: When using drugs to treat children with Tourette syndrome,compared with tiapride,topiramate can not only improve the tics,but also significantly control the anxiety disorders of patients.There is no significant difference in the side effects of the two drugs in this study,but the specific side effects need further study.Topiramate can be used for the treatment of Tourette syndrome,especially for co-anxiety disorders.
