Objectives: At present, gastric cancer is still an important global cancer that seriously endangers human life and health as well as to aggravate economic burden of socitey. The occurrence of gastric cancer is closely related to environment, heredity, diet, immunity and infection.Molecular studies have found that the development and progression of gastric cancer is an extremely complex process involving the regulation of many genes. It is extremely pressing thatsearching molecular markers that are helpful in the diagnosis or treatment of early gastric cancer. Therefore, the expression and significance of transcription corepressor,CtBP2,in gastric adenocarcinoma, early gastric cancer and chronic non-atrophic gastritis were investigated to determine whether CtBP2 was selectively highly expressed in gastric cancer tissues,?expecting to provide a new direction for the treatment of gastric cancer. Methods: 60 patients with gastric adenocarcinoma,30 patients with early gastric cancer and 30 patients with chronic non-atrophic gastritis who visited qinghai provincial people's hospital from December 2018 to December 2019 were randomly selected, and than,60 cases of gastric adenocarcinoma and normal tissues 5cm away,30 cases of early gastric cancer and normal tissues 5cm away, and 30 cases of chronic non-atrophic gastritis were collected. Then, immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of CtBP2 in each tissue and to analyze the correlation between its expression level and tumor-related parameters in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma.Results:CtBP2 was mainly expressed in the nucleus. The difference of expression of CtBP2 between gastric cancer tissues and paracancer tissues was statistically significant(P=0.000).The difference of expression between early gastric cancer and adjacent tissues was statistically significant(P=0.003).There was no significant difference in the expression between gastric cancer tissue and early gastric cancer tissue(P=0.656).Chi-square test showed that the expression level of CtBP2 in advanced gastric cancer tissues was significantly correlated with the clinicopathological parameters such as lymph node metastasis, infiltration depth,TNM stage, and differentiation degree(all P< 0.05),but not with the patient's gender, age,or tumor size(all P<>0.05).however,there was no significant correlation with patient's gender, age,or tumor size(all P values were >0.05).Conclusions:1.CtBP2 is selectively highly expressed in gastric tumor tissues;2.The expression level of CtBP2 in gastric cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in adjacent normal tissues. The expression level of CtBP2 in early gastric carcinoma tissues was significantly higher than that in adjacent normal tissues.3.CtBP2 is underexpressed in chronic non-atrophic gastritis.4.The correlation between the expression rate of CtBP2 in gastric cancer tissues and the clinicopathological parameters of gastric cancer patients suggested that the expression rate of CtBP2 was related to the depth of tumor invasion, the degree of differentiation, lymph node metastasis, and TNM stage, but not to the age, gender,or tumor size of the patients.High expression of CtBP2 is associated with adverse clinicopathological parameters in patients with gastric cancer, which may be involved in the progression of gastric cancer.5.CtBP2 may provide a new way of thinking for the diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer, and is expected to become a target of molecular targeted therapy for gastric cancer. The specific mechanism is still not fully understood, which requires a lot of basic and clinical studies.
