Objective: This study aimed to systematically evaluate the short-term clinical efficacy of photodynamic therapy(PDT)combined with mechanical debridement(MD)compared to other non-surgical treatment for peri-implant disease. Methods: Randomized controlled trials(RCTs)about the clinical efficacy of PDT+MD versus other non-surgical treatment for peri-implant disease were collected by searching the following databases: The Cochrane Library,PubMed,Embase,China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),VIP and WanFang databases, from inception to June 2019.Two reviewers independently screened the literature according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and evaluated the methodological quality of the included studies by using Cochrane Quality Score, then extracted the data and cross checked.Revman 5.3 and Stata 12.0 was applied for Meta-analysis.Results: A total of 8 RCTs involving 383 patients who with Peri-implant mucositis(P-iM)or Peri-implantitis(PI)were included.Meta-analysis showed that in the two groups the changes in probing depth(PD)[MD=0.43,95%CI(0.05,0.82),P=0.03],clinical attachment loss(CAL)[MD=0.22,95%CI(0.02,0.41),P=0.03],modified sulcus bleeding index(mSBI)[MD=0.55,95%CI(0.31,0.78),P<0.00001]were significantly different(P<0.05);while the modified plaque index(mPLI)[MD=-0.07,95%CI(-0.16,0.01),P=0.09] had no statistically significant difference during the 3-6 months follow-up period(P>0.05).Conclusion: Compared to other non-surgical treatment,PDT combined with MD is more effective in reduction of probing depth, improvment of clinical attachment level and remission of inflammation for peri-implant disease in short-term observations.
