Objective: to study the short term effects of high tibial osteotomy and Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty in the treatment of mild medial osteoarthritis of the knee. Methods: from March 2017 to April 2018,this study included patients who underwent high tibial osteotomy(15 patients,16 knees)and total knee arthroplasty(16 patients,19knees)in the department of orthopedics in our hospital. The patients were followed up for12-24 months, and clinical data were recorded and statistically analyzed.Preoperative evaluation was performed on all patients before surgery, and VAS score, operation time, blood loss and drainage volume were recorded.Preoperative and postoperative knee ROM(range of motion),Lysholm knee score and WOMAC(the western Ontario and Mc Master universities osteoarthritis index)score were used to evaluate the postoperative functional recovery of knee joint. Results: if total knee arthroplasty was the final outcome,follow-up results showed a 100%survival rate for HTO and UKA.Patients in both groups showed good knee function and satisfaction at the last follow-up.There was no significant difference between the HTO group and the UKA group in operation time, postoperative Lysholm score, knee ROM,WOMAC score and VAS score.Intraoperative blood loss in the HTO group was greater than that in the UKA group, and the difference was statistically significant(p=0.02).Conclusions: there is no significant difference in short-term outcomes between HTO and UKA in patients with mild medial osteoarthritis of the knee.
