Objectives:Bacterial multidrug resistance has become more severe worldwide, especially the ESKAPE pathogens(Enterococcus faecium,Staphylococcus aureus,Klebsiella pneumoniae,Acinetobacter baumannii,Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter).Patients and Methods: Patients with ESKAPE infections in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from January2016 to November 2017 were included in this study. We retrospectively analyzed the electronic medical records data for each patient, and the clinical and microbiological characteristics, treatment, and prognosis. Results: Two hundred six patients with ESKAPE infections were included in the study. The most common pathogen was Klebsiella pneumoniae50.00%(103/206),followed by Staphylococcus aureus14.56%(30/206),and Enterococcus faecium12.62%(26/206).Of the patients,74.27%developed sepsis and 16.02% were infected by multidrug-resistant ESKAPE pathogens.Acinetobacter baumannii showed high drug resistance, which was significantly higher than other pathogens. In addition, more than80% patients used carbapenems,30% patients used glycopeptides. It showed that the prognosis of patients with multidrug resistant bacteria was worse than that of non-multidrug resistant bacteria(63.64% vs 69.94%)Notably,the improved prognosis in patients with sepsis was significantly lower than bacteremic patients(60.78% vs 92.45%,p<0.001).Conclusion: Patients with ESKAPE infections, especially multidrug-resistant infections, easily progressed to sepsis and had a worse prognosis.
