Objective: To test the null hypotheses that there is no association of upper airway space and condylar positions in skeletal Class ? patients undergoing RME and protractionMethods: The population sample consisted of 17 patients who required maxillary protraction and expansion during their comprehensive treatment;17 patients(10 males and 7 females)with a mean age of 9.76 years had.CBCT was taken both before(T1)and 6 months after treatment(T2).And the control group consisted of 17 patients(8 males and 9 females)who were diagnosed with skeletal class ? malocclusion.Tracing superimpositions of sagittal sections and three-dimensional reconstruction were done for qualitative analysis.The volume of the upper airway and the position of the condylar were evaluated.The average of measurements taken by the same tester in three times was processed by SPSS 22.0 statistical package.Results: After the treatment,the dimensions of UAv?VPv ?GPv?UAa?VPa?GPa?HPs?SPs?TEs?l PJS?r PJS?HPc was significantly increased(p<0.05);and the dimensions of l AJS?r AJS was significantly decreased(p<0.05);and the dimensions of l LR?r LR was significantly different from that before treatment(p<0.05);and the dimensions of HPv?HPa?EBs?SPc?TEc?EBc?l SJS?r SJS was no statistically significant(p>0.05)?In addition,the dimensions of l LR?r LR was significantly different from that before treatment(p<0.05)?As for the comparison of the C0 group and the C1 group,GPv was significantly decreased(p < 0.05),and the rest of measurements were no statistically significant(p > 0.05)? As for the comparison of the C1 group and the T1 group,the changes were consistent with those in the experiment group.Conclusions:MP and RME treatment can effectively improve the patient's face shape,and significantly increase the volume and sagittal diameter of the pharyngeal and glossopharyngeal segments,and improve the patient's upper airway morphology;the position of the anterior condyle can be improved to the the middle position of the articular fossa,and the effect is exact.
