Objective To investigate the short-term clinical efficacy of a novel type of dual plate treating supination external rotation type Ⅲ and IV degree of comminuted fracture of the lateral malleolus.Methods The patients with sclerotic supination external rotation type Ⅲ and IV degree of comminuted fracture of the lateral malleolus treated in our hospital from June 2016 to March 2017 were selected as the research objects.A total of 60 patients were enrolled.Thirty-five patients underwent an operation with novel type of dual plate as the study group.Twenty-five patients with the traditional lateral malleolus internal fixation plate was the control group.Evaluation of perioperative indicators included incision length,operation time,blood loss and postoperative hospital stay.We assessed ankle joint function at postoperative 1m,3m,12 m.Results There was no significant difference between the two groups in age,gender,Body mass index(BMI),cause and type of injury and osteoporosis(P> 0.05).In the study group,the mean surgical incision length was(7.91 ± 1.40)cm,mean operative time was(101.94 ± 43.06)min,mean intraoperative blood loss was(49.14 ± 27.05)ml and mean postoperative hospital stay was(10.86 ± 5.10)d.The American orthopedic foot and ankle society(AOFAS)ankle-hind foot scales were(77.63 ± 8.37)points,(83.80 ± 5.71)points and(88.14 ± 5.60)points at postoperative 1m,3m,12 m,respectively.The excellent and good rates were 97.14%,88.57% and 88.57% at postoperative 1m,3m and 12 m,respectively.In the study group,the mean length of surgical incision was(8.04 ± 1.79)cm,mean operation time was(84.12 ± 20.88)min,mean intraoperative blood loss was(35.20 ± 19.18)ml and mean length of postoperative hospital stay was(10.84 ± 7.19)days.The AOFAS ankle-hind foot scales were(68.36 ± 7.41)points,(78.56 ± 8.73)points and(83.64 ± 8.27)points at postoperative 1m,3m,12 m,respectively.The excellent and good rates were 88%,80% and 76% at postoperative 1m,3m and 12 m,respectively.Conclusions For supination external rotation type Ⅲ and IV degree of comminuted fracture of the lateral malleolus,this novel type of dual plate can rapidly improve the function of the ankle joint,and also can achieve better effect than the traditional device.
