Objective: To study the effect of Nerve Growth Factor(NGF)on the healing of tibia fractures in rats and explore its mechanism. Methods:Sixty SD rats were randomly divided into two groups: NGF group and control group. The NGF group was given local injection of NGF for 10 days at the fracture site, and the control group was given saline.X-ray was used to observe the fracture healing of rats, and to detect the vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)content in the serum of rats, and to determine the expression of vascular tissue, cartilage tissue and Trk A receptor in the local fractures. Results: At 1,3,and 5 weeks after operation,X-rays of the fracture site and safranin orange/fast green staining of the callus revealed that the fracture healing was faster in the NGF group. At 1,3,and 5 weeks after operation, the VEGF content in the NGF group was higher than that in the control group(P <0.05).CD31 staining was more obvious in the NGF group, and the area of CD31-positive cells and blood vessels were higher than that in the control group(P <0.05);Trk A receptor expression was more intense in the NGF group(P <0.05).Conclusions:NGF can promote fracture healing, and its mechanism may be related to enhancing angiogenesis and chondrocyte maturity.
