Objective: To elevate the comprehension of Facial diplegia(FD,a variant Guillain-Barré syndrome)and clarify the clinical characteristics of the disease for further clinical purposes,we systematically reviewed 9 patients with FD treated in our hospital through analyzing their clinical data and reviewing the related literature. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 9 cases of patients presented with facial diplegia diagnosised as Guillain-Barré syndrome treated in the Department of Neurology of The Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University from January 2014 to January 2020,the cases were studied from the aspects of epidemiology, clinical characteristics, auxiliary examination and prognosis. Then we discussed the common characteristics of FD according to the published literature. Results: Most FD patients have a history of preinfection.Bilateral facial paralysis is the main symptom, which often accompanied with distal limb paresthesia, sometimes can be a primary unilateral paralysis first;Hyporeflexia or areflexia are commonly seen, few with relative preservation of reflexes or hyperreflexia;Examination of cerebrospinal fluid suggests protein-cell isolation;Electrophysiological examinations show demyelination, sometimes accompanied by axonal injury, few shows only axonal injury;responding well to IVIg and corticosteroid. Conclusions: Bilateral facial paralysis is the main symptom of FD,most FD patients have typical performance of GBS,but few has variant.Neurologist need to pay more attention to the diagnosis of this disease.
