Objective:To investigate the characteristics and correlation of cognitive function and the fractional Amplitude of Low Frequency Fluctuation?f ALFF?in patients with unipolar depression?UD?and bipolar depression?BD?.Methods:The patients met the DSM-IV-TR diagnostic criteria from The Affiliated Brain Hospital of Nanjing Medical University were enrolled.A healthy control?HC?group matched with age, gender, and education level was recruited. All the participants were evaluated by the Hamilton Depression Scale 17 items(HAMD17)?Young Mania Rating Scale?YMRS?and the MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery?MCCB?and scanned by the resting-state functional Magnetic Resonance scan. The UD group was additionally evaluated by the Hypomania/Mania Symptom Checklist?HCL-32?.The data from the MCCB and the fractional Amplitude of Low Frequency Fluctuation were analyzed by one way analysis of variance among three groups and the difference both the two groups was compared by the independent-samples T test.Results:?1?Compared with HC group, cognitive impairment in UD group was tested by TMT-A,BACS SC,Fluency,NAB,CPT-IP,and MSCEIT;cognitive impairment in BD group was demonstrated by TMT-A,BACS SC,Fluency,NAB,and CPT-IP,WMS-III,BVMT.This study did not find differences in cognitive function between UD and BD group.?2?The f ALFF value abnormal brain area located in the left postcentral gyrus, left superior Parietal lobule, left inferior Parietal lobule, right postecentral gyrus among the three groups by analysis of variance.Compared with HC group, the UD group showed significantly increased f ALFF value in the left superior Parietal lobule, and the BD group showed significant increased f ALFF value in the left postcentral gyrus.Compared with BD group, the UD group showed significant decreased f ALFF value in the left postcentral gyrus and the right postcentral gyrus.?3?Correlation analysis found that the f ALFF value of the left postcentral gyrus of the UD group was negatively correlated with HVLT-R and WMS-III?t=-0.470,p=0.010;t=-0.449,p=0.015?,and the f ALFF value of the left superior Parietal lobule was negatively correlated with WMS-III?t=-0.395,p=0.034?.The f ALFF value of the left superior Parietal lobule of the BD group was negatively correlated with Speech fluency?t=-0.398,p=0.049?.Conclusion:?1?The UD and BD groups were significantly decreased within most areas of cognitive function than HC group, but no cognitive function differences were found between the two patient groups.?2?We hypothesized that abnormalities in parietal lobe activity may be associated with the pathogenesis of patients with depression, and the abnormal activity of the postecentral gyrus existed in the patients with UD and BD group.?3?We hypothesized that parietal lobe dysfunction is not only associated with the pathogenesis of depression, but also correlated with congitive dysfunction.
