Objective: This paper has summarized and introduced professor Luo-Caigui's academic concept on the treatment of chronic nonspecific low back pain.To estimate the clinical effect of chronic nonspecific low back pain with Luo's "toe pressing and point kenading method".Methods: This is a controlled and randomized clinical trial.70 CNLBP patients were admitted and randomly divided into experimental group(group A)and control group(group B).Group A was treated with the "toe pressing and point kneading method",and group B was treated with the general massage therapy.Every patient would receive 12 massages in 4 weeks. Before and after treatment, the pain visual analogue acale, the Roland-Morris dysfunction questionnaire and the SF-36 Health Questionnaire were used to evaluate the clinical efficacy of the two groups. Results: 1.65 patients finally finished the whole trial;2.The baseline results showed that there was no significant difference in age, gender composition, height, weight and other social data, and disease-related data between the two groups(p >0.05).3.About the treatment outcome:(1)The outcomes of group A and group B showed that both treatments could utimately lower the VAS score(p< 0.01),RMDQ score(p< 0.05),and improve the SF-36 score(p< 0.01)in the short term;(2)The comparison between the two groups showed that group A was better than group B in VAS score.More importantly, the outcome showed that the difference is statistically significant(p< 0.05).About RMDQ score, group A also preformed better than group B,and the difference was statistically significant(p < 0.05).Finally,on the score of SF-36,group A was also better than group B,and the difference was statistically significant(p< 0.01).In addition, group A still performed better than group B in the eight areas of SF-36 questionnaire, and the difference was statistically significant(p< 0.05).Conclusion: 1.Both the regular massage and the "toe pressing and point kneading method" can alleviate the clinical symptoms of CNLBP,and enhance the life quality of these patients in the short term;2.The "toe pressing and point kneading method" may have a leg up in ameliorating clinical symptoms and promoting life quality of CNLBP patients when it comes to comparison with the general massage therapy in the short term;3.The "toe pressing and point kneading method" is one of the representative manipulation methods of professor Luo-Caigui,which is unique and effective in the treatment of chronic nonspecific low back pain. Thus, the academic concept of professor Luo-Caigui about the chronic nonspecific low back pain treatment is worth further study and therapeutic application.
