Background: Perianal and external genital skin diseases associated with human papillomavirus(HPV)infection may be accompanied by itching.Whether anogenital pruritus is directly related to HPV infection has not been studied worldwide. Objective: To investigate the correlation between anogenital pruritus and HPV infection,we compared the positive rate of HPV between anogenital pruritus patients and healthy population. Methods: Sixty patients with anogenital pruritus were collected in outpatient service of dermatology department of Shengjing hospital from September 2017 to December 2019.Exfoliated cells of lesions were obtained.Samples were collected from 180 cases of the healthy population during the same period, female collected cervical cells, male collected external genital cells. The HPV types of samples were detected by gene amplification and flow-through hybridization technology, and the HPV typing results and infection rate were calculated. Some patients underwent pathological examination of local lesions. Results:The major clinical manifestations of patients with anogenital pruritus was lichenification of local skin and mucous membrane. The positive rate of HPV infection was 11.67% in anogenital pruritus patients and 8.89% in healthy controls, and there was no statistical difference between them.In both patients group and healthy group,high-risk HPV genotypes were prominent, and there was no statistical difference between them. The HPV infection rate between the case group and the control group with different sex, age, course of disease was no significant statistical difference. The HPV infection rate of patients or their sexual partner with past history of condyloma acuminatum was higher than that without condyloma acuminatum record, the difference was significant. The lesion pathology change of chronic anogenital pruritus patients is chronic dermatitis, and this performance often dose not indicate HPV infection. Conclusion: The HPV infection rate in anogenital pruritus patients with different sex, age, course of disease was not significantly higher than that in healthy population. However,HPV genotypes detection is still recommended to patients,if possible, due to its higher positive rate, especially to those who or whose sexual partner has past history of condyloma acuminatum.
